Sporting Lisbon striker Victor Gyokeres believes Arsenal decided against approaching him for a big release clause in the summer transfer window.
The Sweden international was in scintillating form last season, scoring 43 goals and providing 15 assists in 50 games in all competitions, and has been linked with a move to English giants Arsenal and Chelsea as they look to sign a new striker.
However, with a release clause of €100m (£84m), the two Premier League giants have backed out, although the Blues had a £73m bid rejected, a move which Gyokeres believes is a problem, but he has no qualms about staying at the club.
“The club wanted most of their first-choice players to stay and support us, that’s what happened, but I really enjoy Sporting’s games, so for me it was not a problem to stay,” Gyokeres told Afton Blades.
“It’s probably a bit too high because nothing happened. Of course it’s a lot of money but we have to see what happens in the next market. Nothing happened and I feel like I’ll have a good season, so yeah, that’s probably why there’s no move.”
“But Sporting think I have a lot of value and you have ยูฟ่าเบท to respect that. I am very happy at Sporting and I can’t complain, so it’s not a problem to stay here. Of course you aim to test yourself in other leagues, but I’m not stress.”
